Let's start from the beginning, in the Combat Lures range there is already an ESDrive but it is a sinking version that weighs 42g and is mainly used in freshwater, especially for hunting large black bass and here in Europe for pike, absent in Japan. The idea of making a floating version was Masaya Onuma's because he saw a very high potential for Japanese bass.
His idea was that the floating model of the Evergreen ESDrive could safely cross the shallowest parts of rivers without snagging and produce absolutely brutal surface strikes. If a sinking swimbait has its moment when predators are feeding near the bottom or wind and swell are limiting fishing, it's the floating one that can comb river mouths, with their weed banks and sands, or a beach at dusk when the sea has calmed down or, obviously, a reservoir, in search of a big bass or XL pike.
The Evergreen ESDrive has some very important details that denote the care and attention that the Japanese brand puts into each of its lures. The eyelet is wide enough so that there is no restriction to the S movement, there is a stabilizer under the nose that, together with the dorsal fin, enhance the swimming.
The joint is very accurate and above all studied so that it does not fail even in the fight with a large predator, this allows us to use the Evergreen ESDrive perhaps, in addition to the XL seabass, with bluefish and leerfish and even some amberjack, although the power of the latter could put in crisis the structure of the body.
Pay attention, the Evergreen ESDrive is not a lure suitable for everyone, first of all, you need a rig with at least 50 grams of power, a reel with a high retrieve rate and the right areas to get to use it. It is a very "solemn" fishing if you want, the famous go big or go home.
